Chronology
1971: The Alaskan government enacts the Alaska Native Claims Settlement Act (ANCSA), underwich newly formed Alaska Native corporations retain 44M acres and receive $962.5M for ceded lands and water rights (Anchorage Museum).
1958: The state of Alaska takes possession of 104M acres, setting off new battles over land and development (Anchorage Museum).
1912: Alaskan Athabascan chiefs sue the USG for land taken by white settlers while the Tlingit and Haida wage a 30 yr legal fight for traditional territory in Tongass National Forest (Anchorage Museum).
1867: The USG purchases Alaska for $7.2M (Anchorage Museum).
